Paradise Television is pleased to announce HD Channel 1000, Scenic Hawaii is part of Oceanic Time Warner's HD hotel package now being offered statewide!

Statewide HD subscribers now total over 80,000 and that number is growing by over 2,000 per month.  Paradise Television is constantly receiving feedback praising Scenic Hawaii for its beauty.

from the Maui News....

Paradise Television Network Inc. is now cablecasting the first full-time, locally produced, statewide Hi Def programming. And, since they are first, they get the lowest number: Channel 1000.

Steve Sullivan, director of photography at Paradise Television Network, hefts a new high-definition Panasonic camera at Ka-anapali to shoot scenery for “Scenic Hawaii.” Much of his work is done from a helicopter. The network has three HD cameras, but not all are this bulky.
Jamil Newirth, director of sales and marketing for Scenic Hawaii Channel 1000 at Paradise Television Network, says the HD programming began earlier in the month, but he held off announcing the changes until he was sure it was going smoothly.

Called “Scenic Hawaii,” the channel provides mostly aerial panoramas of the islands’ scenery. Although there are miles and miles of stock footage of that, Newirth says everything had to be reshot for HD.

Blue Hawaiian Helicopters has been flying Paradise camera operators and their new equipment around for some time.

Although the programming is new technology, the network also bought a “rather expensive” translator so advertisers can keep using their already-produced Low Def commercials until they feel the need to shoot new material in Hi Def.

Paradise is using three HD cameras, all also rather expensive. Miniaturization has not come to HD pro TV cameras the way it has to cell phone cameras. The most elaborate of the three cameras is a bulky machine from Panasonic.

Paradise Television’s group of stations includes The Visitor Channel 7, Maui. “Scenic Hawaii” originates in the Lahaina studio and is expected to reach more than 70,000 HD subscribers statewide.

That number is expected to grow as Oceanic Time Warner markets its HD format.

“We are very excited about adding Scenic Hawaii to our HD lineup,” says Oceanic VP Alan Pollock.

“Scenic Hawaii truly brings out the beauty of the islands for both residents and visitors to enjoy.”

Paradise is also producing “editorial” segments, but “nothing controversial,” says Newirth.

Jim Kartes, president of Paradise, says, “HD Channel 1000, Scenic Hawaii allows the viewer to escape and truly enjoy parts of Hawaii one may otherwise never see.”

Hawaii's first full-time, locally produced high-definition TV channel has started to air scenic footage from around the state.

from Pacific Business News...

HD Channel 1000, Scenic Hawaii, shows footage from Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island such as aerial footage, sunsets, seascapes and editorials, said Paradise Television Network.

The channel is a part of the Paradise Television Network group of stations and is broadcast out of the company's production facility in Lahaina.

The station, which started airing April 18, is available to Oceanic Time Warner HD subscribers, the network said.
